Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 pound salted butter cold
- 4 eggs beaten
- 1 cup heavy cream cold
- 2 tablespoons milk or cream
- 1/4 cup salted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 3 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line 2 light-colored baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Use a pastry cutter to blend in the cold butter until it forms pea-sized pieces.
- In a separate bowl, combine the eggs and heavy cream, then quickly add this mixture to the flour and butter mixture. Combine until just blended; the dough will be slightly sticky.
- Dump the dough onto a floured surface and ensure it is well combined. Flour your hands, the dough top, and a rolling pin. Roll the dough out to a thickness of 1 to 1 1/4 inches. Cut into 4-inch squares, then cut each square diagonally to create triangles.
- Place the scones on prepared baking sheets and brush the tops with the remaining milk or cream. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the tops are golden and crisp.
- While the scones cool, melt butter in a small pot over medium heat. Swirl the melted butter for a few minutes until it becomes foamy, nutty-smelling, and shows small brown speckles. Remove from heat.
- Add vanilla, milk, and powdered sugar to the melted butter. Whisk until thick and combined. Adjust milk or powdered sugar to achieve your desired consistency, similar to white school glue.
- Drizzle the glaze over each scone and enjoy at room temperature. Store in airtight containers for up to three days.
Notes
Ensure the butter is cold for better texture in the scones.
Scones are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for up to three days.
Adjust the glaze consistency to your preference for a thicker or thinner drizzle.
