Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 jalapeno, sliced
  • Fresh Mint Leaves
  • 1 ounce jalapeno simple syrup
  • Crushed Ice
  • 2½ ounces bourbon
  • Club Soda, optional

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, and sliced jalapeno. Heat over medium until simmering. Remove from heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Let it sit for 30 minutes before straining out the jalapenos and refrigerating until chilled.
  2. In a julep glass, place 3 to 4 fresh mint leaves and add 1 ounce of jalapeno simple syrup. Gently bruise the leaves using a spoon or wooden muddler.
  3. Fill the glass with crushed ice and pour in the bourbon. Optionally, top off with club soda.
  4. Garnish with fresh mint and a slice of jalapeno before serving.

Notes

For a hotter drink, leave some jalapeno seeds in the syrup.
The jalapeno simple syrup can be made in advance and stored for up to a week in the refrigerator.
Ensure the glass is chilled for an extra refreshing experience.
