Ingredients
Scale
- 1¼ pounds boneless skinless chicken tenders breasts, or thighs
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons egg whites
- ¼ teaspoon white pepper
- 2 tablespoons rice flour or corn starch
- Oil for cooking
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoon ketchup
- 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic grated
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes or more to taste
- Sesame seeds for serving
- Prepared rice for serving
- Steamed broccoli for serving
Instructions
- Cut the chicken into small, bite-sized pieces (roughly ¾ inch) and place them in a large bowl.
- Add water, soy sauce, kosher salt, baking soda, egg whites, and white pepper to the bowl, then stir to combine.
- In the same bowl, sprinkle in the rice flour or corn starch and mix until the chicken is evenly coated.
- In a separate bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients including 1 tablespoon of water; stir until most brown sugar dissolves.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add half of the chicken pieces and cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook for another 2-5 minutes until golden. Remove the cooked chicken to a plate and repeat with the remaining chicken, adding more oil if needed.
- Lower the skillet temperature to medium-low. Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet, and once it sizzles, return the crispy chicken to the pan. Toss to coat the chicken in the sauce and then remove from heat. Top with sesame seeds.
- Serve the honey sesame chicken over a bed of fluffy rice, accompanied by steamed broccoli.
Notes
Ensure the chicken pieces are cut uniformly for even cooking.
You can adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your heat preference.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
