- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1⅔ cups whole milk
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 3 tablespoons dijon mustard
- 8 slices brioche bread
- 12 slices deli ham
- 8 ounces gruyere cheese shredded
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with foil.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, then whisk in flour and cook until golden and bubbly.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cook for 3-4 minutes until thickened, then bring to a boil and add salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Remove from heat.
- Spread dijon mustard on one side of each brioche slice and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Top each slice with 1 tablespoon of bechamel sauce, followed by 3 slices of ham and a quarter cup of grated Gruyere. Then top with another slice of brioche.
- Spread another tablespoon of bechamel on top and sprinkle with the remaining Gruyere cheese.
- Bake for 6-7 minutes until cheese melts, then broil for an additional 4-5 minutes or until top is golden brown and bubbly.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding herbs such as thyme or oregano to the bechamel sauce.
Using fresh Gruyere cheese will enhance the overall taste of the sandwich.
Feel free to customize with your favorite deli meats or cheeses.
