- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large white onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- ½ cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices cheese
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil, swirling to coat the pan.
- Add onions and brown sugar. Stir to coat onions evenly.
- Cook for about 45 minutes, stirring frequently, until onions are a deep golden brown.
- Once onions are cooked down, stir in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, increase heat to medium-high.
- Cook until the liquid is absorbed, then season with salt and pepper.
- In a large bowl, combine ingredients for the hamburgers and mix well.
- Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
- Preheat grill to medium-high heat and place patties on the grill.
- Cook patties for 5-6 minutes per side, adding cheese slices during the last 2 minutes.
- Toast buns on the grill during the last 2 minutes if desired.
- To serve, top each bun with a cheeseburger patty and about ¼ cup of the caramelized onion mixture.
Notes
Feel free to add your favorite toppings, such as lettuce or tomatoes.
For extra flavor, try using different types of cheese like blue cheese or pepper jack.
Make sure not to rush the caramelizing process for the best flavor.
